Hi, my name is Yong Hao, I am taking my diploma in interactive and digital media at Republic Polytechnic and had the opportunity to work at SourceSage as a design intern from September 14th 2020 to January 29th 2021. I have work other different part-times jobs and this is the first time working officially in an office. I was rather nervous as to what to expect here, doubtful too in my abilities on how I can contribute but turns out things went a lot smoother than I thought.
As I slowly go through the onboarding process, my supervisor, Yulin, have provided me with more insight into the company background, providing me with general knowledge about the E-commerce industry, the B2B & B2C culture and have guided me step by step what I needed to do. I was rather confused at first since I had no background knowledge in this industry of work, so I managed to do some research more on this field of work and to ensure my works relate more towards the E-commerce industry.
I started with creating and designing different online store templates, and then slowly to videos and other marketing materials needed. I was also engaged one challenging task, is to do animation, which I had struggled, but with the support from the teams, it eventually paid off well, getting a significant impression on that video and our company. Working here at a start-up company wasn’t easy, and I realize how much work needs to be done, and that’s is why working here at SourceSage provided me with a lot of opportunities to grow and scale myself as a person, learning and trying out many new things.
Additionally, I adore their strong confidence they have in the things they believe in, where they will not hesitate to fight for it and make a stand. Next is their ability to communicate fluently and confidently with others, such as during meetings or convincing merchants to sign up with our online store etc. Lastly is their perseverance, working extremely hard for the company, constantly on the lookout in the chat for any issues even during their free time or on leaves.
The company have provided all the resources I need, everyone here was encouraging and always ensuring I am right on track, it gives me a sense of belonging and how it is like to work out in the society. Not everything is smooth sailing, there are always ups and downs, but overall, I managed to pull through my 20 weeks long internship here smoothly thanks to all my colleagues’ hard work and guidance. I feel accomplished by myself of what I thought I couldn’t achieve, made possible here. It was truly a wonderful experience you don’t always get out in the working world.
