The Lost Art of Collecting Stamps & Postcards

From Tian Stamps & Postcards, with love

Dear Reader,

When was the last time you've seen a stamp-affixed letter or postcard in your mail? – We are not referring to your email inbox, we are talking about your mailbox – the one at the foot of your HDB void deck or outside your house.

Mr Dennis Chua, a stamp dealer, also the owner of Tian Stamps & Postcards, is one of those in our community who grew up collecting stamps. As you stepped into Mr Chua's philatelic shop, you will notice that the stamps and postcards are mainly left behind from the early days of Singapore - featuring the Straits Settlements, Malaya and Singapore.

During his days, stamp collecting is the King of Hobbies. Postage stamps and postcards can reveal more than the history of a letter, they possess the power of revealing the history of a nation.

"Stamps are not only beautiful on the outside, their beauty is skin-deep, they reveal a-lot about our history also - and that is something that we cannot detach ourselves from. If you don't have history to tie you down, your culture, language and food will have no meanings."

Mr Dennis Chua

Do you want to be handing down vintage albums of stamps and postcards to your loved ones before you die or do you want to just be handing login credentials to your Instagram and Facebook accounts to your future generations?

We truly hope that the art of stamp and postcard collecting will not be lost in your generation.

All the best,
